The song is descripting an accident.
Jose was died in an accident
(drowned in the sea when working, he is a diver)
during the short trip that 三毛 accompanied her parents to go to Europe.
The accident happened on the second day after 三毛 left Jose.
(it was in autumn)

三毛 arrived in the desert and met with Jose in March of 1973,
(they got married in summer of 1973)
Jose died in autumn of 1979.
That's why March and autumn are mentioned in the song.
